Was a Great Kitchen Party Until The Idiots Took Over

Well it was a great night at the annual Kitchen Party at Liddy's last night. Although I was late getting there around 12:45 I still had to pay 10 bucks cover for my wife and I, that sucked but what ever.

Anyway the entertainment was great and I saw a lot of people I don't get to see very much, I guess that is the point of the whole thing. So all was well and everyone was partying and having a good time then the idiots took over. A fight seemed to be started by a young fellow in the bar who looked about 20 and he had a face on him like he was going to kill someone. You know the face, we have seen then hundreds of times on the playground or at daycare when someone takes the other kids dinky. That was the exact look and my God he looked really scary with his browned off look.... at least I think that was the intent, he just looked like a sooky child to me.

So another guy takes a swing at him and another fellow jumps in and we are off to the races, next thing I know all kinds of people are running into the street and there are people fighting everywhere. There were boys fighting with boys, girls with girls, girls with boys, what a sight.

So after all the fighting was initially over this one young girl seemed to be stirring things up again and then the donnybrook was on again, fists flying and boots kicking and blood shedding....Holy Shit What a Time I heard someone yell out. What a time? That is what they call having a time fighting in the middle of the street, punching women and children, that is what I would call them children.

So when all the fighting stops the idiots on the door at Liddy's let a bunch of the guys back in the bar who were just fighting outside. What the hell is up with that? Used to be when someone got into a fight in a bar they were shown the door and the patrons were kept inside so as not to add to the mess. So you know what is going to happen, sure enough the one idiot who seemed to be in the middle of the whole thing from the beginning starts up again. He is covered in blood from punches and scratches from the girl he was fighting with and then the other kid who started it....hang on now...I need to put this in context. The two guys who initially started the whole thing are the same two guys who are still going at it in the bar after all the fighting was over. So we have bloody face and sooky face still inside the bar after all the shit they caused in the beginning. The cops are outside so why didn't the door person at Liddy's point out the offenders to the cops so they could be taken to the lockup where they belonged.

Embarrising to say the least. Was it the usual fracas like years ago when people from other towns came to deliberately start fights or did we do this one on our own?

Shameful to say the least. Just like the wild west of 250 years ago, true celebration!!!! Battle re-enactment. Was William Amherst there. Wait 'til it hits the news on Monday. We'll be the laughing stock of the country.

After they let them back in after the fight I left and I will never return there again. Fights happen but only dumps and dives let people back in again after that kind of madness happens.

It's too bad one bad apple(or a few more in this case) has to spoil it for everyone. If this was an event planned by the town, perhaps they should have taken some responsibility and setup bouncers on the door. It certainly wasn't evident that there was anyone around to handle situations like this. I guess that's why those idiot ended up back in the bar, as there was noone to stop them from coming back in.
We all know that this is a well attended event and there's no reason why everyone else should have to suffer for the few imature ones that come out.

  9. So not nice.....too bad...liddy's is one of the oldest still standing bars in North America...over 250 yers now...
always 1 around to start..& 10 others to join in...not cause they have a beef just cause they can...28 years of my life was in this "public racket"..9 years walked away now....I was critized for the way I handled it..but if I threw you out ..then you stayed out...& I wasn't afraid to throw you or charge you.....
you can have all the bouncers , all the help you want...if lil idiot is gonna start ...not care how many will take down...
to all that had a good time I'm glad......to all that enjoyed the fight...good......I'm glad now I didn't go..thought about it...but just kinda knew what happens with a bunch of idiots thrown in......cause they can't stand to see people havin a good time
Too bad that it was ruined for the ones who wanted to have a good nite out....

I agree Michele I worked there in my day too and when you were there I knew that you were going to do what you were suppose to do and they never got back in. To bad that we never had someone like you there again the other night cause what was there on the door was more afraid to keep them out cause they didn't want to get a poke in the face but I don't blame them I wouldn't want a poke either but if I knew I couldn't handle it I wouldn't have done it.

    Craig,
People with pictures or video send to police. That is what happened with the riots after Vancouver Canuck lost in the finals. Police used video/ pictures to charge people.

  12. The police were there and if they had any interest in following up on it they could have done it that night. The fact is it was nothing major, just a few scraped knuckles and bloody noses. I have no interest in that type of thing.

    1. The only idiots there as far as I can see is the one writeing this blog where's all the pics of before hand of the band and people dancing and having a good time I don't recall seeing any of those pics? No because you decided that this was the story you wanted to share like a barfight only takes place in torbay, believe me bid I've seen in in Edmonton Calgary Toronto and b.c, take a good look at yourself before you go hating on the children and be thankful it was a fight in torbay and not Calgary toronto or Edmonton because you might of seen someone get stabbed shot or killed

      Delete
    2. Steve first of all we are in Torbay and not another province, that is irrelevant. Secondly the purpose of this story was more about pointing out things get out of hand when proper security is not in place.

I am not hating on anyone, I don't care if people want to go out in the street and kick the shit out of each other, that happens all the time and that is not the problem.

The problem is that the Town of Torbay had their name on this event and they should have ensured proper security was in place.

I have seen lots of bar fights too but rarely do I see two guys start a fight in a bar, then go outside then be allowed to come back inside the bar to start fighting again. If you think I am an idiot because I think something is wrong with that picture then that is all I can do.

Yes people fight, yes it happens everywhere and yes it will probably happen again....However I can tell you this, because of this story I have written and because I went to council about this next year at the Kitchen Party we will pretty much definitely see proper security on the door who know how to handle this type of situation.

Just because this is Torbay doesn't mean that when things get out of control that someone won't get stabbed. Then we will have a real problem.

  13. Newfoundland not Disneyland? Yeah that is the attitude. I know there are times when fights break out in bars and it happens all over the place and it is not the first time it has happened at Liddy's.

My problem is that this was an event that the town was advertising on their website as part of the Torbay 250 celebrations.

If this is the case then why didn't the town provide security or at least ensure that Liddy's had proper security in place. If this had been handled properly from the beginning there would not have been the big blow up.

We are in the middle of the Torbay 250 celebrations and wanting tourists to come to our town for events the entire year. If the mentality you have is going to be indicative of the rest of the events this year then I am sure the entire town can be proud.

I don't have to get over it, I have seen many fights in Liddy's, Cole's and Club Commodore in the last 25 years. It happens but back in those days people were kicked out of the bars and the rest of the people kept inside. That is what should have happened Friday night.

Craig, I think I am in one of those pics and I am find with you posting it cause I was fighting I was just trying to get the young girl to stop with her shit and get away from it all but she is young 20 or 21 somewhere around there but she is loves to be in the middle of everything and needs to grow up alot, so I said my peace to her and left.I think that this was sick for all them to be fighting like that cause some of them were in there middle 20's to early 30's so they weren't all kids or anything but I guess that is what they are into and it is sand that when people like us go there to enjoy our night because we look foward to this every year but it will stop the older people from going in the future. I do know that poor Mary Nolan was thinking of going over but now she would not have stayed late but still this lady took care of that bar for many years and she would be sad to here what had happened.

Was this a Town sponsored event for Torbay 250 ? If so where were the security they overpay for or any other event To check ID's and maintain order and crowd control? However if the main goal was to pack em in and make a fortune on the bar then it was doomed from the start .

Maybe the Town sponsored "kitchen party " should h,be been a nice Sunday afternoon when all the " idiots " are still in bed !

Agree..have it in afternoon!! Unfortunately liddys can be done up nicely inside..but still attracts the same riff raff.. the people fighting should never have been allowed back in the building and police should have at least gave them a ride home to their mommys..or in some cases their children... No one sensible wants to pay cover to get in to a bar and listen or watch immature young ones..and also grown woman get on like an idiot!!

To many stupid people in the world. Where is the party bus to plow right through this crowd on the road, Torbay would be a better place. As for posting pictures on the Internet, if you arn't being stupid or making a fool of yourself nobody would take your picture.

  18. I don't know who they are. I don't think I would even if i did. They know who they are and i am sure the are other people who know them. I post the pics more of a general image of what took place. The pictures are mine taken by me so they are mine to do with what i want. I dont want to single people out with their names.

Those people should of at least gotten a disorderly conduct in public complaint or something by the police that were there!! It was all bad enough the young people fighting,..what was xtremely more disgusting was a grown man and woman in their 40's making complete and utter fools of themselves.. They should not be allowed back in the building again..none of them! And they should be made examples of..next time they will re-think making idiots of themselves!!

take the pics off your site by people where drunk...

    1. There were lots of drunk people there, but they were not all outside fighting. Some people know how to drink and have a good time without making fools of themselves.

These picks are not meant to point out individuals but the overall lack of security provided for the event.

Hopefully they might learn something from this foolishness.

  23. I took down a couple of specific ones because the young woman who was pictured in them was not involved in the fighting. However it might have been inferred through my story that she was. I have no desire to single out people in those photos or the story. I am more interested in the larger picture of the events.

Photographers need to know about legal restrictions concerning taking of photographs that include any copyright material, trademark, identifiable person or private affairs. Each time, they need to evaluate whether they should obtain prior written permission, or whether they should warn their client of the potential legal issues.

Similarly, businesses that use images created by photographers need to know about potential legal liabilities. It is a good practice to require a warrant from the photographer that they own or have permission to use any material that they provide to you and that the contents do not violate any law or regulation.

To be in the clear from a legal perspective is not enough. While understanding the laws applicable to photography may help deal with the legal aspects of taking and using photographs, it is highly advisable that photographers and users of photographs also formulate their personal ethical code. Publishing photographs of people can cause the suffering or humiliation of the people depicted in situations that are embarrassing, painful or private. It is in such situations that photographers and users need to balance ethical considerations associated with the taking or publishing of photographs with their legal obligations under copyright and other laws. I would like to conclude with a quote from Bert P. Krages:xix

“The personal choices that a photographer needs to make regarding material and the manner of execution not only reflect how he or she sees the world, but also reflect how the world sees the photographer as an ethical being.”

Posting of these photos is not ethical......

    1. Well first of all I took the pictures so there is no copyright issues.

Secondly when people are acting like they were in those photos in a public setting they have no reasonably expectation of privacy. So I don't see the ethical problem.

Also these particular photos were chosen specifically because it is not easy to identify anyone in them, Most likely the only people who would recognize the people in them are the ones who were there.

My reasons for posting these photos was not to necessarily embarrass the people who took place in the fighting but the bar and the organizers of the event for not having proper security.

      Thank you for your opinion.

    2. Also, I have has 1 person ask me to remove a picture that may have implied she took place in the fighting and I did so without hesitations. Also two other people who were in those pictures communicated to me they had no problem with them being posted.

      Delete
  26. Actually I had no problem paying to get in, I was just surprised that they were still charging at 12:45.

Also these pictures are not meant to single out individuals because if they were I would have used other pictures I had that were closeup and clear of exactly who started the whole mess and who else was involved.

I selected these particular photos because of the fact that were either far away or out of focus. If I was looking to embarrass specific individuals I could have posted names in my story, but I was not interested in that.

The overall point of this story was to show how idiotic these people were and how lack of security at Liddy's contributed to the entire mess. If there had been professionally trained individuals manning the door there is a good chance that that whole incident could have been avoided.

I think people are overlooking that this function although it was being hosted at Liddy's was advertised in Town of Torbay marketing materials that have been sent to residents and also posted on the Town website. If the town is going to promote an event then they should be ensuring that proper security and safety practices are in place.

As for not wanting things we do wrong published on the internet don't do it in public.

Fighting is a public street and people say they jave a right to privacy, you must be joking. As for adults fighting in the streets grow up people, if you are old enought to get in to the bar you should be old enough to figure out fighting is the middle of a road is just stupid. If you are outside your home and somebody takes a picture of you doing something embarrassing then you have to ask yourself why did I do that, instead of why did they take the picture.
Take pride in how you conduct yourself outside your home. Be an example in your community so when your picture shows up on the internet it's something to be proud of.
We hold out fate in our own hands and it's waisted on being a hooligan.
