Great Big Success

Well it was a great time at the Great Big Sea concert last night. It turned out to be a huge day and everything turned out good, actually better than I and many others had suspected. I don't know what the final tally for ticket sales were but I suspect that it was close to the goal and that is a good thing.

I would like to give credit where it is due for this concert and that would be with town staff who organized and planned the entire event. I suspect that the last year has been very trying for them with a lot of staff turn over and key people who were involved in the initial planning leaving to work elsewhere. I think that the CAO Dawn Chaplin should be congratulated with stepping up helping make yesterdays concert as well as other Torbay 250 events a success. I know there were a lot of people involved but my impression is that she is the glue that holds that place together over there and keeps things on the rails.

Many of the concerns that people had were certainly addressed by the event organizers like closing Bauline Line and operating a shuttle service. Also I think the weather played a huge role in the attendance and hopefully to the condition of the soccer field. The fact that it didn't rain will make it all the more likely that the kids won't have to miss any soccer once the schedule resumes.

I also suspect that the members of council are happy this morning as well. They took a huge gamble with this concert and it certainly looks like it paid off. I think that many of them may have been a little nervous when the first ticket sales numbers started rolling in and they were not that high but I doubt any of them would admit it. However they maintained they would pick up and they did so I guess who ever was giving them that advice was right.

Overall I have to say that this event was well planned and executed. I have not heard too many complaints and people certainly had a good time and I would like to thank everyone who purchased a ticket and contributed to the success of this event.

Update on Great Big Sea Tickets Sales - August 2

As of yesterday August 2, 5:30pm there were 3013 tickets sold for the GBS Concert.

Sales seem to be picking up and we still have the walk up crowd to add to it tomorrow. For those of you going to the concert it looks like it going to be a hot day so make sure you have lots to drink.

There are still lots of tickets available but get out and get them soon, tickets are available at Mile One Box Office (Go there to get them if you want the preferred price) and they are also available at District Drugs in Torbay.
