About Me

Hi There and welcome to Torbay Today. My name is Craig Scott and I am a lifelong resident of Torbay and currently live here with my wife and two children.

On two occasions in the last 20 years I had to make the difficult choice to move outside the province. Even though I was living elsewhere I have always kept apprised of what was going on in the community. This was prior to Facebook becoming so popular so it wasn't always easy to keep up on current events.

That is part of the reason I started this blog when I did. I have a passion for writing and politics so it seemed like the perfect platform for keeping the residents of Torbay and friends living abroad informed on current events. I have had some wonderful feed back with respect to the work I have done with this site and invite you to contact me for any reason. You can view complete profile here

  1. Hey Craig, just wanted to say thanks for doing this blog. My husband and I are new to the Torbay (moved from SJ to Torbay in June) and I appreciate your posts. We haven't been able to get involved in the town a whole lot yet so while you and I don't share all the same politics, I subscribe to and find your posts a great way to keep up on what's going on in the community! Keep it up!

  2. Thanks Jen for your interest. As far as my political leanings go they are forever evolving depending on the issue.

I find after you have some kids and start to get involved in local issues your views change on certain topics.

Regardless this is not meant to be a partisan blog or to promote a particular viewpoint. I do however like to express my opinion and discuss it with others. I am always open to peoples views on topics and will incorporate them into my stories.

That being said, feel free to make suggestions any time or pose questions. I wouldn't be so bold to say I have all the answers but I will certainly try and find out what I can.

  3. Hey Criag,

Thanks for all the Torbay news and updates - greatly appreciate it.

What's the latest on the bypass road? When is it supposed to be finished?

I heard a rumor that Weir's is being charged $2,000 per day for each day they are late - any truth to that?

  4. Hi Craig,

How would I contact you to promote my Zumba(R) Fitness classes in Torbay? :) I must be having one of those days, I just don't see an email or "contact me" option. :D Perhaps you could just poke a link up on the side or something.

  5. Hi Katherine, I didn't realize that my contact information had disappeared. Must have Happened when I changed the design of my blog.

Anyway, you can email me at craigscott.torbay@gmail.com

Your "about me" shows a very limited and somewhat negative perspective. You are unfortunate because you had to move away? You still have your health and can work? It doesn't have to be unfortunate if you learned from it. Teach yourself to be grateful for all your opportunities and learning experiences.

    1. I think you misunderstand what I meant...I have no regrets that I moved, I actually loved the experience of living in another province and city.

The unfortunate part is having to leave your family behind and the relationships that you miss out on by virtue of not living in close proximity. Things like being there for family members who are sick or that have died.

I guess if a person has no sense of family or cares only about themselves then there is no problem. Family is very important to me and my family and if is the only part of not living close by that was unfortunate. You can never get that time back and in some circumstances those family members may pass away and you regret the time you may have missed.
